Bald Eagles of Homer, December 2008

What a way to spend a birthday! Here’s a quadruple post for you, since Santa said you’ve all been more nice than naughty. The first shot is something different, it’s a silhouette of an eagle (of course) against the beautiful sky we had this morning (Saturday the 27th). I think the more abstract form of the bird was a stark contrast to the soft golden/amber glow above the mountains. There seems to be a bug with the software that runs this Journal, so for now there is no way to click on the images to enlarge them… hopefully this will be fixed soon.

The next 3 images are a series of shots, a more humorous take on things.

One day down, two to go with the eagles… this month. Keep checking back, I’ll post more pics ASAP. Take care and have a happy holidays.

A Reminder of Warmer Days

Hey everyone, here’s a quick image from this summer – a beautiful day spent around the Turnagain Arm and Potter’s Marsh. This is an Arctic Tern hovering just overhead at Potter’s Marsh. This particular bird was somewhat predictable, he’d swoop directly overhead, then back off a little, watching the water for small fish. If you timed it correctly, you’d have several seconds to frame and shoot off several frames as he hovered above and in front of you. Fun day with some beautiful birds.

Another Eklutna Sunrise

This is another image from my time spent out at Eklutna Lake a few weekends ago. A beautiful fall morning. Fall seems mostly forgotten now as we have a few inches of snow outside and the mountains are bathed in the “white stuff”.

Eklutna Lake Panoramic

The “problem” with Alaska is simple. There’s just too much to see! This was taken around 7:45 this morning. The sky was rather boring, but what a location! I had the whole place to myself for a great deal of the morning. This place would really shine with a light cloud cover with sunrise/set colors… so, I’ll be back.
