And I’m Off!

Well, just finishing up with the packing now. Tomorrow afternoon I’ll be heading for Paxson, then the Denali Highway for a solo photography trip. I’ve really been looking forward to this trip – fall colors should be near peak, and the weather looks promising. My route will take me from Wasilla to Glennallen, then north on the Richardson Hwy to Paxson. From Paxson I’ll be driving west on the Denali Highway towards Cantwell (near Denali National Park’s eastern border). Then south again to Wasilla. I’ll be spending as much time as possible on the Denali Highway (a 135 mile long road, most of it gravel). I’m going to take my time and “wander” – I don’t have to be back in the office until Wednesday. If I get any decent images, I’ll be posting as soon as I get home, so keep your eyes peeled! If I’m not back by Tuesday… wait longer:)

Transition to WordPress

Well, the transition is now complete. I’ve switched our Journal Page from Blogger to WordPress, the worlds most popular blogging solution. WordPress is much more customizable, more powerful, and all a better solution for our needs. The Journal link from our webpage will continue to direct you to the old Blogger Page until our head webmaster/designer (uh, that’d be Tim Smith – business partner extraordinaire) returns from vacation and edits the html on our webpage. I will also leave the old Blogger page up for the foreseeable future to help redirect traffic here, our new Journal page. Let us know what you think!

B&W Bears, Post 3

Here are another pair of images from the brown bears on the Katmai Coast. The reception for these b&w versions has been great, and I’ve got to say – I’m hooked. For me, b&w puts more stress on texture and composition. You also have a little more flexibility with b&w. All of these images were shot in mid-day light. Not the soft, warm light you find at the small hours of the day – known as the golden hours. Often times, creativity begets creativity. I now have more favorite images from the trip (and the b&w’s outnumber the color). This exercise has boosted my creativity, and reminded me that creativity shouldn’t end in the field.
